A café or a showroom can afford to be forgiving. A hospital, a healthcare facility, or a school chemistry lab cannot. There, a material has to withstand disinfection, frequent cleaning, contact with chemicals, and constant use — all while still looking good. Here’s how our Mínus panels hold up in these demanding environments.
Hospitals as a Test of Durability
Healthcare facilities are among the most demanding environments there are. High standards for hygiene, easy disinfection, and long-term durability are simply a given — there’s no room for compromise. And yet recycled plastic has managed to earn its place here too.
At Rychnov Hospital, where the interior was designed in collaboration with Domy Architects, the panels became part of a space created to feel less sterile and impersonal than a typical healthcare environment, while still meeting every operational requirement.
A similar approach shaped the Inscape Deep-Care Center in Prague, where light and recycled material come together to offer visitors something different from the usual cold, clinical healthcare spaces.
Schools as a Materials Laboratory
A different kind of challenge comes from educational institutions — specifically chemistry classrooms, where materials face acids, solvents, and the daily wear of student use. That was exactly the challenge behind the chemistry classroom project in Krnov.
Architect Marek Juránek explained that they were looking for a material that could truly perform in a demanding school setting while complementing the classroom’s technical character — and that, in his view, Mínus panels offer a robust, moisture-resistant alternative to traditional laminate.
A similar approach proved successful at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Brno University of Technology (CheeZ FAST VUT), where the material has to withstand the high daily traffic of a university environment.
What These Two Environments Have in Common
Whether it’s a hospital room or a chemistry lab, the requirements turn out to be surprisingly similar: resistance to moisture and chemicals, easy disinfection and maintenance, and long-lasting looks. Because each panel is made from a single group of thermoplastics with no additives, we can select a variant with properties tailored exactly to the demands of each specific environment.
Healthcare and education are among the strictest industries when it comes to material selection. The fact that recycled plastic holds its own in both is, for us, confirmation of exactly what Mínus panels are meant to be: not just a design accent, but a fully functional material — even where nothing can be left to chance.
