Techmania Science Center: When Science Meets Sustainability and Design

When the new exhibition “Sustainable World” was being prepared at the Techmania Science Center in Plzeň, it was clear from the start that besides the content, the spatial solution itself had to align with the theme. That’s exactly when our 100% recycled plastic material came into play.

A Recommendation That Made Sense

“We received a recommendation from our designer who worked on the exhibition,” says Lukáš Šuser, Head of Technical Department at Techmania Science Center. “We were attracted by the combination of recyclability and great design. We were looking for a material that would be not only functional but also visually appealing – and that was fulfilled.”

Design in the Leading Role

The new exhibition aimed to bring the topic of sustainability closer to visitors in all its forms. The goal was for the space itself to demonstrate a responsible approach — and Plastic guys panels were the ideal choice. “Design was key for us, as well as the fact that it is a 100% recycled material. We also appreciated the texture and the possibility of backlighting, which opened new visual opportunities,” Šuser adds.

Experience with the Material? A Positive Challenge

Although working with the material went mostly smoothly, the Techmania team did face some challenges. “We dealt, for example, with gluing options but eventually found a functional solution. The processing itself was fine,” explains Šuser. Questions also arose about load strength across surfaces, but this too met expectations in the end.

What Do Visitors Think?

We were curious about how visitors react to the material. “At first glance, they might not notice that it’s recycled plastic. But that’s the beauty of it — sustainability doesn’t have to come at the expense of aesthetics,” says Šuser. Plastic guys panels simply work as a design element while carrying a strong message.

Sustainability as the New Norm

At Techmania, sustainability is seen as an integral part of contemporary design. “It’s one of the main themes we address in most of our projects and exhibitions,” confirms Šuser. And that’s why future collaboration with Plastic guys is definitely possible — “If the panels fit the concept, we will certainly continue working with them.”
