Dušička Café, Velké Karlovice

When Honest Valašsko Heritage Meets Modern Circularity

In the heart of picturesque Valašsko, as a natural continuation of the beloved Na Mú Dušu guesthouse, a place was born where reality slows down and the mind opens up. Dušička Café in Velké Karlovice is not just an ordinary coffee stop. It is a space built on absolute honesty—from the specialty coffee beans running through the La Marzocco machine, to the local, homemade desserts, and finally to the thoughtful interior, where traditional Valašsko architecture communicates sensitively with modern circular design.

Heart Written in Details

When designing the interior, the main goal was to preserve the warm, traditional atmosphere that people in Valašsko love. At the same time, however, the owners were looking for an element that would bring simplicity, clean lines, and visual depth to the bar area. The choice eventually fell on our Mínus panels in the Fridge texture, which injects freshness and a subtle, playful detail into the wooden interior.

Sustainability in this project did not emerge as an empty marketing gesture. The owners were primarily captivated by the material’s real story and the fact that it can be repeatedly breathed new life into. Indeed, if they decide to expand or alter the bar in Dušička in the future, the panel can be crushed, melted, and reshaped into a brand-new element. This creates a perfectly closed loop that makes profound sense in modern architecture.

From Confused Looks to Proud Recognition

A bar made of recycled plastic in a traditional Valašsko setting naturally sparks curiosity. Guests often rack their brains trying to figure out what the countertop is actually made of—most often guessing fine-grained natural stone or a special composite. The subsequent revelation that they are leaning on 100% recycled plastic regularly opens up discussions about how ecological materials can be highly aesthetic and durable.

Some visitors, however, go straight to the point and comment on the bar with a smile: “This is the work of Plastic guys, right?” Blending local gastronomy with storytelling materials has thus become a natural standard at Dušička.

Durability That Can Handle the Pace of a Renowned Café

Running a café places extreme demands on work surfaces. Constant contact with hot cups, water, spilled coffee, and daily cleaning puts any material to the test. Mínus panels handle these demands without compromise—they are non-absorbent, mechanically resistant, and exceptionally easy to maintain, all without losing their original beauty.

The Dušička project proves in practice that sustainable design and eco-friendly materials have a firm place even outside of modern urban hubs. When connected with respect for local tradition and honest craftsmanship, a space with a soul is created—one that people will love to return to.
