Comedy of the Spirit. When art meets sustainability
The East Slovak Gallery in Košice decided that its new permanent exhibition Comedy of the Spirit should not only present art but also spark reflection on the future. Thanks to the architectural studio COSMO, our recycled plastic panels became the key element of the exhibition’s furniture concept. Modern design, a strong story, and a clear environmental footprint – these were the reasons why the gallery chose Plastic Guys.

A material with philosophy
For the gallery, the most important aspect was that the panels combine aesthetics with sustainability. “The possibility to create an exhibition architecture with respect for the environment was very important to us,” says Dorota Kenderová, the gallery’s director. The panels not only offered a unique visual character reminiscent of stone but also durability and easy maintenance – qualities essential for gallery operations.

A process without compromises
Both the gallery team and the architects were positively surprised by how easy the panels were to work with – cutting, milling, and joining could all be done using standard tools. This allowed the ambitious concept to be realized without technical limitations.

A detail that tells a story
What caught the most attention was the texture of recycled plastic. Its visible structure feels authentic, reminiscent of the material cycle, and provokes reflection on environmental responsibility. For visitors, the very architecture of the exhibition became an experience in itself, complementing the artworks on display.

Sustainability as the way forward
The gallery sees circular economy as a necessity, not just a trend. “Sustainability doesn’t have to mean compromising on quality or appearance,” adds Kenderová. And future projects are already planned – from exhibitions to renovations and additional furniture.
