Tables and Bar Counter Made from Our Recycled Material for Kapitola Café
For the new Brno café Kapitola, we created original tables and a bar counter from our recycled plastic boards. The owners wanted the café’s interior to offer guests not only a pleasant atmosphere but also a unique element with a clear story – and our recycled material certainly has that.
How did they enjoy working with us? We asked:
How did you first hear about Plastic Guys and what caught your attention about our material?
We had heard about Plastic Guys some time ago from friends who had worked with them (Punkt espresso bar). When we were working on this project, our architects suggested collaborating with Plastic Guys.
For what project did you use our boards and why did you choose us?
We used the material for café tables and the bar counter. We chose Plastic Guys on the recommendation of our architects and also because we could create our own custom design.
What material properties were key for your project?
We had a specific vision of what the tabletops should look like. The possibility to design our own unique look together with Plastic Guys was essential for us. Since the material would be used in a hospitality environment, durability, strength, and easy maintenance were also crucial.
What was the process of working with our boards like? Was it similar to other materials, or did something surprise you?
Some boards were not completely even (slightly thinner in some places), so they needed to be worked and leveled during installation.
What detail about the boards stood out to you the most?
The custom design, texture, and uniqueness (each board is slightly different). The possibility to recycle the boards again in the future.
How did your clients or visitors react to the fact that the material is made from recycled plastics?
We can’t say yet, as we’ve only just opened, but we believe our customers will not only appreciate the original design but also the fact that the boards are recycled.
What do you think about sustainability and the circular economy in architecture and design? How important is it in your projects?
When it comes to materials, functionality and design are usually the first criteria we consider. We see sustainability as an important added value. It’s great that there’s a material that combines all of this. Such a solution makes sense to us.
Do you plan to work with our material again in the future?
At the moment, we don’t have any new projects planned, but if in the future there’s an opportunity where this material would be suitable, we will definitely turn to Plastic Guys again.
The Kapitola Café project is another example of how recycled plastic can find its place in modern interiors – not only thanks to its functionality and durability, but also because of the unique design and story behind it.
