Sklizeno Bistro, Campus Bohunice

Original aesthetics and sustainability in a commercial interior

In Brno’s Campus Bohunice, a new Sklizeno Bistro has emerged, proving that even a commercial gastro operation can combine functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. The interior of the bistro was designed to feel both inviting and contemporary, with recycled plastic panels from Plastic Guys becoming one of its most striking features.

The project was carried out by Beveden s.r.o., the company responsible for the complete reconstruction of the space. Together with the investor, they chose a combination of natural wood and recycled panels, which brought not only material contrast to the interior but also a clear visual accent. The Plastic Guys panels were not just a design detail but also a bearer of values – representing the transformation of waste into durable and attractive building elements.

A key role was played by their aesthetic qualities. Thanks to their specific texture and the possibility of backlighting, the panels evoke the look of natural stone, such as onyx. At the same time, they bring originality that cannot be replicated by mass-produced boards. Each piece is unique, adding character and individuality to the space. On a practical level, the panels can be processed similarly to traditional sheet materials, and although they have certain specifics, the Beveden team appreciated the technical support and processing manual provided by Plastic Guys.

The project demonstrated that recycled plastic can stand on equal footing with traditional materials – and in some aspects, even surpass them. At Sklizeno Bistro, original design was successfully combined with a responsible approach that delivers tangible results. The use of the panels saved approximately 110 kilograms of plastic, which equals around 15,000 yogurt cups. Instead of ending up in incineration or landfill, this waste was given a second life as part of a modern interior.

The result shows that the principles of the circular economy have their place even in commercial interiors, where hundreds of people pass through daily. Guests at Sklizeno Bistro come into contact with a material that carries not only aesthetic value but also a powerful sustainability story. The combination of wood and recycled plastic has proven attractive even to seasoned architects and designers looking for original solutions.

Sklizeno Bistro is proof that sustainability doesn’t have to mean compromise. On the contrary – when modern materials, bold visual concepts, and responsible practices come together, they create a space that both surprises and inspires.
