Sustainable Foundations for Your Kitchen: Mínus® Panels

Sustainability in the kitchen hasn’t been just about sorting waste for a long time. Real change starts with the materials that form the heart of your home. Our Mínus® panels, made from 100% recycled polystyrene, prove that design and ecology can go hand in hand. However, to ensure your new countertop brings you joy for decades, it’s good to know the rules of the game. It’s not rocket science—it’s more about mutual respect for the material.

Every Piece Has Its Own DNA

When you get Mínus® for your home, you aren’t just buying a “board.” You are buying an original. Because we work with recycled material, minor color deviations aren’t defects but proof of authentic origin. Just like wood acquires a patina, our panels can slightly change shade over time due to UV radiation near windows. It’s a process that adds character to the material.

Hygiene First

The kitchen is a place where life happens (and sometimes a little mess is made). The good news? Mínus® material is naturally non-absorbent. This means it does not promote the growth of bacteria or mold and is easy to wash. For routine maintenance, all you need is lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and a soft cloth. No expensive chemicals, no science.

A Superpower Stone Won’t Offer

Most kitchen countertops end up being written off after a deep scratch. Not Mínus®. Its greatest advantage is repairability. If you manage to scratch the surface, all it takes is a little patience, very fine wet sandpaper, and polishing paste. The countertop will look just like it did the day we installed it.

A Few Things to Watch Out For

To prevent damage, keep a few limits in mind:

  • Hot pots belong on a trivet. Polystyrene can handle a lot, but temperatures above 80°C are too hot.
  • Use a cutting board. A metal knife might be a hero, but it would leave marks on the board that you’d have to sand out unnecessarily.
  • Leave aggressive chemicals at the drugstore. Acetone or thinners are enemy number one for Mínus®.
