History Meets Sustainable Design: Our Panels in Brno’s New Café Punkt.
Café Punkt. has been a synonym for great specialty coffee and a unique atmosphere on the Brno coffee map for years. When the owners decided to open their latest branch right in the historic heart of Brno on Starobrněnská Street, we knew this was a project meant for us. The new space demanded interior elements that are bold, visually clean, and at the same time capable of withstanding heavy daily use. And this is exactly where our recycled plastic got its chance to shine.
Architecture and Coffee Under One Roof The new Punkt. has found its home in one of the oldest historical buildings in the city center, just a few steps from Zelný trh (the Vegetable Market), where it shares premises directly with the Brno Gallery of Architecture. The sensitive interior design was crafted by the renowned studio JUNG architekti.
Their goal was to preserve the historical value of the location while breathing a contemporary, minimalist, and airy feel into it. The color palette of the entire space builds on soft, clean tones. The architects brilliantly combined exposed historic brickwork, clean white walls, and raw metal elements. This gave the furniture materials an even greater canvas to stand out—and this is where we clicked perfectly with the whole concept.
A Play of Contrasts: Light Tables and a Dominant Dark Bar For this exceptional project, we at Plastic guys fabricated all the tabletops as well as a custom-designed bar counter from our Mínus® recycled panels.
To visually divide the space and emphasize its dynamics, we worked with two different material patterns. The tabletops made from our lighter granulate blend with subtle color accents beautifully brighten the interior and add a playful detail. In contrast, the main bar counter forms a solid visual anchor for the entire space, thanks to the dark blend used. Furthermore, each panel features precisely crafted, rounded edges that are pleasant to the touch and highlight the cleanliness of the craftsmanship.
Running a café in the very center of the city demands the absolute maximum from furniture. Every day, our panels must withstand the rush of dozens of guests, the constant moving of cups filled with hot coffee, and regular cleaning. Recycled plastic, however, is tailor-made for this purpose—it is extremely durable, non-porous, easy to maintain, and on top of that, every single piece carries its own unique and unrepeatable visual story.
A Connection That Makes Sense The Punkt. brand has always stood for a community approach, honest local production, and quality ingredients. We are thrilled that we could complement this great Brno space with our sustainable material and showcase a piece of circular economy in practice, right in the center of the action.
