myTreedk Dental Clinic Ostrava Wins Award at Czech Interior Award – and Plastic guys Were There

Recycled Design in Practice: Plastic guys in the myTreedk Dental Clinic Project
When you say plastic in interiors, most people imagine something cold, impersonal, and industrial. But what if we told you that plastic — in the form of recycled panels from Plastic guys — played a key role in the project and that the 3M studio won the Public Award at the Czech Interior Award 2025?
Architecture with a Broader Vision
The design for this project came from the 3M studio, with whom we had the chance to chat at the Plastic guys event at Kumst in Brno. With Martin Hudák and Michaela Pekařová, we discussed the creative approach to design and innovation they have embraced at the studio — it was definitely an inspiring and fun discussion!
“After all these years doing this work, it was time to consider whether we were wasting materials unnecessarily. So when we discovered Plastic guys, it made immediate sense,” says Martin Hudák.
Although plastic hadn’t featured in their previous projects, due to its resistance to disinfectants, easy maintenance, and — in this case — its ability to adapt colorwise and texturally, it earned a firm place in the project.
4.6 Tons of Plastic Waste Transformed into Dental Clinic Furniture
For the furniture production at the dental clinic, we processed 4.6 tons of plastic waste. To give you an idea, that equals:
- 1,155,000 yogurt cups,
- 330,000 toothbrushes,
- 115,500 PET bottles.
Bold Colors, Recycled Material, and Millimeter Precision
Plastic guys panels appear in dozens of variations at myTreedk Ostrava — from gently transparent textures to wild color gradients between pink, yellow, blue, and green. They were designed with such precision that the colors “flow” from one treatment room to another. It was a completely original color gradient system — one panel, for example, could start with 100% yellow, gradually shifting to pink, then blue, green… and back again.
“A colorfully bold project like this is rare to see. And that’s what’s beautiful about it — nobody was afraid to be daring,” adds Michaela Pekařová.
The panels were mapped out into individual furniture pieces, each with its exact marking to ensure that in this complex mosaic of colors, everything fit perfectly. As the team says, “If there is any mistake somewhere, no one has noticed it yet.”

A Collaboration That Exceeded Expectations
Atelier 3M is known for its emphasis on creativity, responsibility, and sustainability. When they searched for a partner to turn their vision into reality, they contacted us. Our recycled panels met their expectations.
When Plastic guys started collaborating with Atelier 3M, no one knew that in less than a year something inspiring for the entire industry would be created. There were plenty of initial challenges — size of format, thickness, bubbles — but all were gradually overcome.
“You can even bend the material now, so finally we can really take off,” Martin Hudák says with a smile.
“We’re looking forward to large-format panels, shower enclosures, partitions… this material can handle more than we initially thought.”
And it’s not just about technology — it’s also about mindset. About sustainability, thinking about waste, the future of construction, and relationships with local suppliers.
“The fact that you’re from Brno was crucial for us. We don’t import it from America. You develop it here, with us. That’s the most important thing,” both architects agree.
The Result? A Czech Design Gem
The myTreedk Dental Clinic in Ostrava is not just a practical healthcare facility. It’s a place that inspires, changes ideas about how a clinic should look, and at the same time sets new sustainability standards in public spaces. And Plastic guys were proud to be part of that journey.
