When Japanese tradition meets sustainable design
The new sushi bistro Sushi.Me in Prague offers not only authentic gastronomy but also an interior that immediately captures attention. One of design elements became our panels made from recycled plastic, bringing a modern aesthetic and a unique story to the space. The idea to use Plastic Guys material came from the architect, who discovered us on Instagram. The founders were instantly intrigued by the combination of visual attractiveness and the strong message of sustainability.
“We were looking for a modern and sustainable material that carries a story and fits our concept. Your panels brought exactly the sesame element we needed,” says Kamil Opelka, founder of Sushi.Me.
A material with a story
For Sushi.Me, the panels were used throughout the interior – bar and tables that added details that give the space its distinctive character. Key factors were design, sustainability, durability, food-safe properties, and the flexibility of custom adjustments. A tight deadline made quick production and delivery crucial – and everything worked out on time.
Working with the panels was slightly more demanding in terms of installation compared to conventional materials, but the final result outweighed the effort. Guests and even journalists quickly noticed the unique surfaces, which often became a conversation starter. Many were surprised when they learned the surfaces were made from recycled plastic – a discovery that led to enthusiastic reactions.
Design that surprises
What impressed Sushi.Me the most was the originality of each panel. Different color options and textures allowed them to create an interior with a unique character, distinct from standard solutions, while still feeling clean and harmonious – just like the atmosphere of a sushi bistro.
The team acknowledges that every material has its limits and the real test will come over time, especially with larger bar areas. But so far, the advantages clearly prevail – in design, functionality, and sustainability.
Sustainability as the future
For the Sushi.Me team, choosing recycled plastic was also a statement. “We wanted to integrate sustainable and reasonably priced materials into the interior. They may require more work, but in the end, they surprise and delight. We’re glad we took this path,” adds Kamil Opelka.
They see sustainability and circular economy principles as the future direction of design and gastronomy. By using recycled panels, they managed to combine functionality, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility in one project.
What’s next
Sushi.Me is clear – they want to continue working with Plastic Guys materials in future projects.
For us, this collaboration is living proof that sustainability can be part of everyday life. Whether in cafés, bistros, offices, or public spaces, recycled plastic tells a story that not only captivates but also makes sense.
👉 We are proud to have been part of the Sushi.Me project and to see our panels become part of an interior that connects gastronomy, design, and responsibility for the planet.
